Case study, measured October 2026

14 of 71 searches went from outside the top 30 to the top 3 after we rewrote our own Play listings

We publish our own Android apps. Before selling listing rewrites, we did them on our apps and read the Google Play search results, country by country. Below: the searches, the rank, the date, and what did not move.

searches where Certificate Maker was absent from the top 30 on 22 October and reached the top 3 within 2 to 6 days.
#5
Mileage Tracker in the US for "mileage tracker tax log", 28 October, out of 10 results.
Not ranked
the same app for the broad search "mileage tracker" in the US (Everlance, Driversnote and Stride hold the top 3). We say so because it is the useful part.

What Google Play shows today, signed out

Google Play search for 感謝状 in Japan: first result, outlined in brick red, is Certificate Maker by Play3rs, listed under its Japanese title, ahead of a similar certificate app and a Thank You Cards app.
Japan, 感謝状 (letter of thanks): our app first of 50 results, under the Japanese title we wrote. Absent from the top 30 on 22 October.
Google Play search for mileage tracker tax log in the US: Everlance, Stride and Driversnote on the first row, then a Mileage Tracker, Tax Log app by Apponance, then Mileage Tracker: Tax Log by Play3rs outlined in brick red, fifth, next to MileIQ.
United States, "mileage tracker tax log": our app fifth of 20, behind Everlance, Stride, Driversnote and an older tax log app, ahead of MileIQ. Note the first row: those apps hold millions of installs.

App 1

Certificate Maker: absent, then first, on local searches

On 22 October 2026 we read the Play results for each country and the app did not appear in the top 30 for these searches. We then rewrote the title and short description per language with the word people actually type there (感謝状 in Japan, kursintyg in Sweden, not a translation of "certificate"). Listing: Certificate Maker: Award PDF.

The denominator: 71 searches were absent at the start and measured again; 14 reached the top 3, the other 57 did not. Small local searches move fast; they bring installs, not automatically revenue.

App 2

Mileage Tracker: page one for "tax log", not for "mileage tracker"

US title served today: Mileage Tracker: Tax Log. The broad search belongs to apps with millions of installs and thousands of ratings; text alone does not beat that. The tax angle (drivers logging miles for the IRS) is where a small app can rank, so the title was built around it. Ranks read on 28 October 2026:

USmileage tracker tax log#5 of 10
USmileage tracker tax#7 of 11
UStax mileage log#8 of 28
AUmileage tax log#2 of 10
AUtax mileage log#3 of 22
GBmileage tax log#4 of 8
CAmileage tax log#6 of 9

Same app, other languages

One title per market, written in the local word

In the Nordics a mileage log is a "driving book". Each title below is the one we wrote, and the rank is for that exact search in its country, 28 October 2026:

FIAjopäiväkirja: kilometrit#2 of 50
NOKjørebok: turer og km#2 of 12
DKKørebog: kørsel og km#3 of 50
SEKörjournal: resor och km#3 of 7

Next reading of these ranks: 5 November 2026. This page will show it, up or down.

How we measure

  • 1We open the public Google Play search page with the search, the language and the country (q, hl, gl), with no account signed in.
  • 2The rank is the position of our app among the results the page returns; "of 10" means the page returned 10 apps.
  • 3Each reading is saved with its date. A rank seen by a signed-in user can differ: Play personalises results.
